Kohima: The Rising People’s Party (RPP) of Nagaland has criticised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for blaming Christians for the North-East Democratic Alliance’s (NEDA) failure to secure any seats in Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Manipur.
The RPP condemned Sarma’s remarks, highlighting his history of berating Christians and calling his recent accusations outrageous.
In a statement, the RPP said, “Sarma is too arrogant to admit that the common people, whether Christians, Hindus, or Muslims, are intelligent enough to vote for the party of their choice.” They pointed out that the Hindu Meiteis of Inner Manipur overwhelmingly voted for Congress, a decision influenced by Prime Minister Modi’s failure to acknowledge the ongoing violence in Manipur.
The RPP criticised Sarma for repeatedly lowering the dignity of the Chief Minister’s office with his “bullying” attitude, undignified outbursts, and coarse language against political opponents. They also referenced the “Okora Naga” incident, noting that the Nagas of Nagaland were magnanimous enough to overlook it.

Reflecting on NEDA’s poor performance, the RPP noted that Sarma continued a narrative initiated by the JDU Nagaland and the NDPP candidate, blaming the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) and Dr. Villo Naleo for Congress’ victory in Nagaland. The RPP stated that this narrative insults the intelligence of the voters, taking them for fools.
With NEDA’s electoral failure, the RPP suggested that the chief ministers of Nagaland and Meghalaya might now experience some relief from Sarma’s overbearing attitude.
