Wokha: The Tokhü Emong cum Mini Hornbill Festival was celebrated at Wokha Public Ground on November 7, with MLA Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe attending the occasion as the guest.
Addressing the gathering, Humtsoe emphasised the importance of viewing issues from different perspectives rather than judging them from a single point of view. He urged people to consider different angles before reaching conclusions and make sincere efforts to understand the truth.
Reflecting on the significance of Tokhü Emong, Humtsoe called upon the people to look beyond participation in the festivities and introspect on whether they were genuinely willing to bring positive changes within themselves and the community. Highlighting the festival’s values of forgiveness and reconciliation, he urged people to forgive one another during their lifetime and seek reconciliation wherever necessary.
Describing Wokha as a pioneer in various fields, he recalled the district’s contributions to social and political developments, stating that several initiatives and political movements had originated there.
He also called for a more constructive approach towards leadership, urging people to recognise and appreciate the contributions of leaders across different fields instead of limiting public discourse to criticism. He said acknowledging positive contributions would help foster unity and enable society to progress collectively.
The programme featured the final match of the tug-of-war competition, in which Midland Colony emerged victorious. Nchumbemo Erui and team presented a Tokhü song, while the Wokha Town Phiro Cultural Organisation performed a folk song and dance. The choir of Wokha Town Baptist Church also presented a special song.
The programme was attended by Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court, Justice Nchumbemo Mozhui, among others, and concluded with the traditional Tokhü feast.
