Mamit: Aaranyak, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mamit, organised a two-day training programme on Integrated Farming Systems in Mizoram on November 3 and 4 to promote sustainable agricultural practices among farmers.

Supported by IUCN-KfW, the residential programme at KVK Mamit in Lengpui brought together 12 participants, including seven men and five women, from six villages: Rajiv Nagar, Tuipuibari, Damparengpui, Teirei, Saithah and Lallen.

The training focused on Natural Farming and Integrated Farming Systems through technical sessions, practical demonstrations and field exposure.

Experts from KVK Mamit and the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) conducted sessions on agroforestry, animal science, horticulture, plant protection, agricultural extension and agronomy.

Participants also received hands-on training in vermicomposting, mulching and natural farming practices, including the preparation and application of Beejamrit, a traditional microbial seed treatment.

The programme also covered the judicious use of fertilisers and pesticides and the differences between natural and organic farming.

Aaranyak said the training aimed to equip farmers with practical knowledge to integrate different farming components, improve resource utilisation and adopt environmentally sustainable agricultural practices in their villages.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Aaranyak’s Tiger Research and Conservation Division.
