Kohima: The Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) is gearing up to host the 3rd edition of the North-East Olympic Games (NEOG) 2024, scheduled from March 18th to 23rd across three districts.
The regional sporting event, set to unfold in Chümoukedima, Dimapur, and Kohima districts, promises a riveting display of sporting prowess across 16 disciplines.
These include Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Belt Wrestling, Boxing, Cricket, Football, Freestyle Wrestling, Lawn Tennis, Pencak Silat, Sepak Takraw, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, and Wushu.
A preparatory meeting convened at the Games Headquarters located in the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence in Chümoukedima District on Thursday witnessed active participation from 15 Sports Associations alongside NOA officials.
Chaired by the Secretary General, the meeting extended sincere appreciation to the Chief Minister and the state government for their commendable efforts in nurturing sports development in Nagaland.
Anticipation mounts as all eight states of the North-East region are expected to participate in the forthcoming games, with preparations in full swing to welcome officials, technical delegates, and senior federation members to Nagaland.
Nagaland is poised to make history by becoming the first state to integrate Cricket into the Olympic movement, following the landmark decision by the International Olympic Committee.
Additionally, the inclusion of Belt Wrestling underscores the NOA’s commitment to promoting indigenous sports, with Nagaland athletes already making their mark on the international stage representing India.
Coaching camps are slated to refine Nagaland’s teams across all 16 disciplines under the NOA and respective sports associations, with national-level coaches and trainers lending their expertise to elevate the state’s athletic prowess.
Simultaneously, a debriefing and preparatory meeting with Liaison Officers and Volunteers emphasised their pivotal role in ensuring the success of the forthcoming games.

The NOA issued an appeal to all sections of society to rally behind the state’s sports fraternity, particularly the youth and sportspersons, while urging believers of Nagaland to continue their unwavering prayerful support.
However, it’s worth noting that despite requests from the Mizoram Olympic Association and the Arunachal Olympic Association, weightlifting, judo, and karate did not make the final list of games for the forthcoming event.
