Kohima: In a tragic turn of events in Nagaland’s Mon district, unidentified assailants reportedly killed Khampei Opeiham Konyak, a leader of the NSCN-IM.
According to sources, Konyak was at his residence in Namsa, Tizit, near Assam border when a group of six unidentified miscreants forcefully entered his home and picked him.
The assailants reportedly broke into Konyak’s residence around 10:30 PM on Wednesday night, and he was fatally shot during the ordeal.
NSCN-IM sources told EastMojo that as Konyak was a “habitual defector”, he held no official rank with the NSCN-IM.

Konyak had a complex history of affiliations, having defected from the NSCN-K (YA) group in Myanmar to join the splinter group NSCN-K (Angmei) before eventually surrendering to the Assam Rifles in 2023. Following his return from Delhi, he had joined the Isak-Muivah led NSCN-IM.
When asked if the NSCN-IM would investigate the case, the NSCN-IM source denied any probe. However, authorities have launched an investigation as situation remain tensed.
