Aizawl: In a covert operation on August 27, 2024, Mizoram Police’s CID(SB) team intercepted a significant shipment of methamphetamine concealed in electric air coolers. The operation took place near Kulikawn East Presbyterian Church, where a goods carrier truck (TATA 407, Registration No. MZ-04A – 6063) was stopped.
Upon inspection, the team discovered 39.257 kilograms of methamphetamine, equivalent to approximately 4 lakh tablets, hidden inside 17 electric air coolers. The seized drugs have an estimated market value of Rs. 5,10,34,100. The shipment originated from Zokhawthar in Champhai District.
The police apprehended the truck’s driver, MC Lalnunsiama (34) from North Khawbung, and the receiver, Vanlalhruaii (28) from Durtlang Mel-5, at the scene. Both individuals, along with the seized drugs, were handed over to the Special Narcotics Police Station for further action.
A case has been registered under Special Narcotics PS Case No. 33/24, dated August 27, 2024, under sections 22(c), 25, and 29(1) of the NDPS Act. The investigation is ongoing to determine the backward and forward linkages involved in the drug trafficking operation.
