Guwahati: Bernard N Marak, the Tura Member of District Council (MDC) representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Meghalaya. has written to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, seeking protection for Christian communities in the region.
Marak’s appeal stems from concerns raised by social media posts alleging verbal discrimination, attacks, provocation, intimidation, and unlawful trespassing on Christians by Assam Hindutva leader Satya Ranjan Borah.
In his letter to Chief Minister Sharma, Marak highlighted Borah’s consistent targeting of missionary institutions, noting that such communal instigation is on the rise, posing a threat to institutions that have significantly contributed to the region’s education and social services.
Expressing the plight of Christians in Assam, Marak emphasised their sense of helplessness, insecurity, and fear.

He urged the Assam government to take immediate steps to ensure the protection of Christian missionary institutions by providing maximum security.
Additionally, Marak called for directives to be issued to all concerned authorities to implement prohibitory orders against communal provocations.
