Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh’s rally racer, Lhakpa Tsering, has ventured into the international rally arena, partnering with seasoned navigator Musa Sherif from Kerala, a seven-time Indian National Rally champion and veteran of 314 international and national rallies. Their debut at the Thailand Rally Raid Championship (TRRC) 2024, Round 2, held in Lobpuri province, Thailand, from May 18 to 19, proved to be a success.
According to reports from the Arunachal Times, Tsering and Sherif showcased exceptional skill and endurance, securing a commendable 6th place in the Extreme T1 category among 19 entries from Thailand, Japan, Australia, and India.
Sponsored by JK Tyre Motorsports and local Arunachal entrepreneur GR Construction, the duo demonstrated remarkable adaptability and resilience, navigating over 200 kilometers of challenging stages amidst scorching heat and intense thunderstorms.
The two-day event presented grueling terrain and extreme weather conditions, with the rally featuring over 200 kilometers of demanding routes filled with dips and ruts, testing the participants’ mettle.
Despite hailing from the cold Himalayan region of India, Tsering and Sherif excelled under harsh conditions, clinching 6th place in Extreme T1 and an overall 12th position in the competition.
The rally’s victory went to a Thai team from Toyota Gazoo Racing Thailand, completing the course in a cumulative time of 1:54:24 hours.
