Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday asserted that the support base of the opposition parties—Congress and CPIM—eroded totally prompting the leaders to indulge in conspiracies to destabilise the government.
“Leaders of CPIM and Congress are no less than conspirators. The words are different but the meaning is the same in the present context,” the Chief Minister told media persons during a protest rally organised by the BJP workers condemning the alleged malicious campaign of the opposition party targeting the incumbent government.
Thousands of party workers from 14 assembly constituencies under the West Tripura district participated in the protest march held at Agartala city. The procession covered almost all the major intersections of the city to finally culminate at Paradise Chowmuhani. Apart from that, similar protest rallies had been organised in all the remaining 46 assembly constituencies in presence of the local MLAs and Ministers.
“Our workers had been fuming in anger to witness the malicious campaign launched by the opposition parties which was full of lies and fabricated allegations. We have organised this rally to issue a warning to them. Avoid these efforts to mislead people otherwise, the consequences would be terrible. Despite facing defeats in elections after elections, these parties couldn’t digest the fact that their ideology, policy and programmes have been rejected by people,” said Dr Saha.
Speaking at the rally, BJP Tripura Pradesh President Rajib Bhattacharjee took a swipe at the principal opposition CPIM and claimed that the opposition parties had been trying to mislead people.
“The CPIM party held a rally here in Agartala alleging poor law and order situation and crisis of food and employment in the rural areas. I must say the opposition parties are ignorant. They have turned a blind eye towards the relief and rescue measures undertaken by this government during the floods. They haven’t appreciated the government’s decision to provide free ration in fair prices shops in view of the festive season,” Bhattacharjee said.
