GANGTOK: The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party has formed three committees to resolve three pending issues– the Assembly seat reservation for Limboo-Tamang communities, tribal status for the 12 left-out communities, and bringing the 17th Karmapa to Sikkim.
The committees were formed during a meeting of the SKM legislature party at Mintokgang chaired by Chief Minister PS Golay on Tuesday, an SKM press release said.
Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba will head the committee for the Limboo-Tamang Assembly seat demand. The committee members are to be appointed expeditiously, after which they will meet the Chief Minister. The committee would then maintain contact with the Centre for reaching its conclusion, the press release informed.
Chief Minister’s political advisor T.N. Dhakal was appointed as the committee chairperson for the tribal status demand for the 12 left-out Nepali communities of Sikkim. After the committee members are finalised at the earliest, the committee would meet the Chief Minister and then maintain contact with the Centre to reach the demand to its conclusion, the release said.
The SKM release also mentioned that funds had been allocated in the last State budget for bringing Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to Sikkim, but it could not materialise due to the Covid pandemic. The government will constitute a full committee and a meeting with the Chief Minister to take forward the remaining work.
Another decision taken was on Residential Certificates (RC). Those persons who have fulfilled all norms for RC are to be granted the certificate immediately. For this, the Chief Minister would be holding a meeting with concerned officials at the earliest. The required documents for RC are to be strictly examined, and those having complete documents would get the RC without delay, the release said.
