Manipur: Three killed in factional clash in Noney

Noney: At least three suspected cadres of Naga groups were killed in a factional clash between two factions of a Naga armed group in Manipur’s Noney district on Wednesday, official sources said.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. at Taodaijang village, 19 km north of the jurisdiction of Nungba police station.

The deceased have been identified as Meijianthui Thaimei (25), Aihung Khumba (22) and Gainingam Kamei (20).

Unconfirmed sources said the shootout could have been between NSCN-IM and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF). There have been several reports of clashes between the two Naga armed groups. ZUF is a breakaway group of NSCN-IM.

The mortal remains of the deceased were handed over to their respective families following post-mortem examinations at Nungba Community Health Centre (CHC).

Meanwhile, armed miscreants reportedly ambushed a convoy of passenger vehicles travelling along National Highway 202 (Imphal–Ukhrul Road), between Leingangching and TM Kasom, at around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday under Litan Police Station.

According to police, the convoy was heading towards Ukhrul when the armed miscreants opened fire at the vehicles. However, no human casualties have been reported in the incident.

In April last, two Naga men were killed, including an ex-serviceman, in the same area when suspected armed militants attacked a passenger vehicle.
