Gangtok: Two IPS officers of Sikkim Police have received President’s medals.
Akshay Sachdeva was awarded in the category of distinguished services medal, while Manoj Tiwari was awarded with meritorious services medal. Both the police personnel are part of the Sikkim cadre of Indian Police Services.
Akshay Sachdeva
ADGP Law and Order (Sikkim Police) Akshay Sachdev, a 1991-batch IPS officer, hails from Punjab. He is a gold medallist in BE Civil Engineering and Master’s in Structural Engineering. He has served Sikkim for 28 years without any deputation. He has seen three generations of government in the state.
He was first posted as SDPO Namchi and then SDPO Rangpo and SDPO Gangtok. This was followed by posts such as Additional SP East, SP North, Commandant SAP, SP East, DIG Range Sikkim, IG Fire, IG Armed Police, director Vigilance, ADG Law & Order, ADG Fire & Checkpost.
As the commandant of SAP, he improved the force which was on the verge of being banned due to disciplinary issues.
As SP of East Sikkim district, Sachdev focused on controlling crime, especially hooligans, implemented strict law & order in the state including yellow-headed taxis, compulsory helmets, no overloading, concept of boards under traffic, anti-pollution drives, anti-mobile rides, cleanliness drives.
As IG (Fire), he equipped the department by bringing in modern equipment, did lot of college and school programmes, made fire extinguishers work in public and residential orders.
As IG (Armed Police), he worked for the upgrade of IRBn jawans by giving them efficient training.
As IG (Law & Order), he dealt with clashes between rival political parties, gave security and protection to everyone for damage control. As director (vigilance–anti-corruption drive), he found over 100 officers guilty. He serves today as ADGP Law and Order in Sikkim.
Manoj Tiwari
Director of Sikkim Fire Services, Manoj Tiwari was born in 1974 in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. He is a 2001 IPS cadre and has studied in Allahabad University. He was a junior fellow UGC in 1991 to 1998. Prior to joining the police force, Tiwari served in state civil service in UP, working in transport department as an Assistant Regional Transport Officer.
His first posting in Sikkim was as Sub-divisional Police Officer in Geyzing from 2005 till August 2006. He then served as ADC to Governor for three months in 2006. He then served as Commandant of Sikkim Armed Police (SAP) from 26 October 2007 to April 2, 2010. From 2010 to 2013, he served as Superintendent of Police in South Sikkim. Thereafter, he was transferred to East Sikkim in the same designation from 2013 to July 2014. He briefly served in Sikkim Vigilance till November 2014.
Thereafter, he went to Uttar Pradesh in December 2014 on Deputation to Uttar Pradesh where he served as Special SP in Jhansi, Saharanpur, and Moradabad. He was also SSP in Special Task Force. While getting promoted as DIG Personnel and Range in Jhansi, Chitrakoot and Azamgarh, in Uttar Pradesh, he served five years in Uttar Pradesh. He came back to Sikkim as Inspector General in 2019, from there on he has served as the Director of Sikkim Fire Services from 2020 till date.
Speaking with EastMojo, he stated, “Sikkim as a state is very peaceful, prosperous having a great future ahead. Educational level and awareness of the people is very high; they are optimistic people who look forward to their career. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and worked with me.”
