The North Eastern Council (NEC), the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong have come together to strengthen the research and development capacity of the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis.
An agreement to this effect was signed by Joint Secretary of MDoNER Angshuman Dey, Secretary of the NEC Moses Chalai, and Director of IIM Shillong Prof. D.P Goyal in the presence of other senior officials of DoNER, NEC, and IIM Shillong.
The Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis was established in 2016 through a tripartite agreement among IIM Shillong, MDoNER, and the North Eastern Council of States. The Centre is envisioned as a think tank for the North Eastern Region (NER), providing inputs on the efficiency and sustainability of resource utilisation.
Under the MoU, the Centre will continue its work with greater vigour and commitment. It will collaborate with other institutions of excellence in various subject areas and establish an institutional network for collaborative research, analysis, and consultancy. The Centre will also undertake research and analysis on the development agenda of the NER and support in stimulating economic development through innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Centre is expected to identify interventions needed for steady export growth from the region and assist in generating new ideas and knowledge in all sectors for adoption in NER.
The NEC, MDoNER, and IIM Shillong believe that the extension of the MoU will further strengthen the Centre’s capacity to contribute to the development of the NER.
