In a significant move to boost tourism, the Iranian government has announced a visa-waiver program for Indian tourists entering the country by air. The program, which will be applicable to all Indian citizens travelling to Iran for tourism purposes, will allow a maximum stay of 15 days.
According to the information issued by the Iranian embassy, the visa-free entry facility will be available to all Indian citizens once every six months. The Iranian government has also clarified that the 15-day period cannot be extended. The visa abolition only applies to individuals entering the territory of Iran for tourism purposes.
It is to be noted that this measure does not apply to those Indians who want to stay in Iran for more than 15 days or require other types of visas. In such a situation, these travellers will be required to obtain the necessary visas from the Iranian missions in India.
