Guwahati: Proscribed militant outfit, The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA (I)) has issued an explosive video, where a Guwahati resident ‘confesses’ that he was planted by Assam Police in the outfit to derange their plans and cause them severe damages.

In the video, which is in Assamese, Sanjib Sarma, a resident of Baihata Chariali near Guwahati, talks in detail about how he was allegedly sent to join the ULFA (I) by Assam Police. Sanjib’s brother, Apurba Kumar Sarma, a para-commando, was killed during an ambush in Manipur.

“I was informed by Assam Police officer Partha Sarathi Mahanta that ULFA (I) was involved in his killing. Before that, my brother Apurba Kumar Sarma had imparted training to me and a few other youths. He taught us how to load a pistol, shoot, martial arts, Kung Fu, salute, parade, etc.,” Sanjib says in the video.

“I was asked to join the ULFA (I) by Partha Sarathi Mahanta. I was asked to undergo training on how to fire bigger guns after joining ULFA (I) and kill those responsible for the death of my brother Apurba Kumar Sarma. I was also asked to get information about all the camps,” he adds.

Sanjib says Dhunumoni Saikia, a resident of Jorhat, allegedly told Sanjib that once he has all the information, they will send around ten other youths to join ULFA (I) by 2023.

“Before I joined ULFA (I), I was given a password…they gave me this password a day before I joined ULFA (I). They had also taught me how to salute around three days before joining the ULFA (I),” he says in the video.

“I was also promised Rs 1 crore by Partha Sarathi Mahanta if I succeed in completing the mission. They had also planned to blow up several camps in 2023. I was also to blend in with everyone and get information from all the camps. I had carried out such missions earlier too. Not just me, but several other Assamese youths had carried out such missions,” he says.

“A few days ago, I had nabbed a drug trader for which I was paid Rs 10,000. I had also completed a mission where I nabbed a teacher accused of rape, for which I was paid Rs 20,000. The teacher was a resident of Nalbari, and Partha Sarathi Mahanta had paid me Rs 20,000 since I helped in nabbing him,” he says.

“Before I joined ULFA (I), a meeting was held between Partha Sarathi Mahanta and several senior army officers. Although I had gone to the meeting’s location, I was not allowed inside. Only they would know what was discussed during the meeting. I was not told much. Only after that meeting, I was asked to join ULFA(I),” he says.
