In response to growing concerns about data privacy, the Digi Yatra Foundation has categorically denied reports that it stores the personal data of users. The foundation has also clarified that it does not store personally identifiable information (PII) data anywhere in any central repository.
The Digi Yatra Foundation has been at the forefront of using technology to enhance the efficiency of air travel in India. The foundation’s revolutionary Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) technology enables contactless, seamless movement of passengers at various checkpoints at airports.
Earlier this week, there were reports raising concerns about the privacy of data shared with Digi Yatra. The concerns were related to a former vendor Dataevolve, which has come under investigation. In response to the concerns, the Digi Yatra Foundation has clarified that Dataevolve has been completely removed from the Digi Yatra ecosystem. The foundation has also reiterated that the personal data of 3.3 million Indian users and the Digi Yatra app is absolutely safe.

According to the Digi Yatra Foundation, the personal data of users is only stored on their mobile devices within the Digi Yatra app. This means that once the app is uninstalled or deleted, the credentials data and travel history are also deleted by default. The foundation has further stated that when a passenger shares their ID credentials and boarding pass to the originating airport, the data received by the airport is purged/ deleted from airport systems within 24 hours of flight departure. The Digi Yatra Foundation has also claimed that it does not store personally identifiable information (PII) data anywhere in any central repository. The foundation has also reiterated that the latest audit was conducted in January, which clearly reconfirmed that Digi Yatra does not store PII.
