Kohima: The first batch of MBBS students from the Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research (NIMSR), Kohima, commenced their university examinations under Nagaland University on Thursday.
The 100 students, who were admitted in 2023, will continue with their written examinations until August 2, followed by practical exams from August 7 to August 9.
To ensure a comprehensive evaluation, seven examiners from prestigious government institutions across various states have been invited to conduct the practical examinations alongside internal examiners.
Press secretary to the health minister informed that counseling for the 2024-25 academic year is expected to begin shortly.
Last year, the state had a total of 152 MBBS seats, distributed as follows: 42 seats from the Central pool, 25 seats from the NEC pool, and 85 seats from NIMSR.

It is anticipated that the same number of seats will be available this year. Prospective candidates are reminded that a Surety Bond for compulsory service upon graduation will be implemented.
Minister of Health and Family Welfare, P. Paiwang Konyak, extended his best wishes to the pioneering batch of NIMSR students undertaking their examinations. He acknowledged the significance of their role as the first batch, stating that they are laying a foundation for future generations of medical professionals.
