Aizawl: Vanlalnuntluangi of Mizoram made history on July 13 by placing 1st Runner-Up at Miss Grand India 2025, becoming the highest-ranking contestant from the state in the pageant’s history.
The event saw 29 contestants from across the country compete for the prestigious title and the chance to represent India at Miss Grand International 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand this October.
The winner of the national crown was Vishakha Kanwar from Rajasthan, who will now go on to represent India on the international stage. Gujarat’s Nandini Patel was named 2nd Runner-Up, while Nagaland’s Tsurila Jankhiungru placed 3rd.
Vanlalnuntluangi’s outstanding performance made her the first Mizo ever to place this high at the national level in Miss Grand India. She also took home two major sub-titles: Best in Swimsuit and Miss Social Media, further cementing her as a standout contestant of this year’s pageant.
Her achievement was widely celebrated in Mizoram. Chief Minister Lalduhoma took to Instagram to congratulate her, writing:
“Congratulations to Vanlalnuntluangi @vee.lnt Thuampui Veng, Aizawl on being crowned 1st Runner-Up at Miss Grand India 2025! Your achievement on the national stage brings pride to Mizoram and inspires our youth to dream big and shine bright. #MissGrandIndia #MizoPride.”
Former Miss Mizoram 2017, Rody Hnialum, also posted a heartfelt message:
“We are so proud of you, we are happy that you are the first Mizo to take the crown at the national level.”
The 2025 edition of Miss Grand India marked a new chapter under the directorship of Akanksha Thakur of Star Entertainment Production, who recently acquired the national franchise. For the first time, state-level competitions were managed by independent license holders, ensuring broader representation from across India.
Vanlalnuntluangi’s journey has not only brought recognition to Mizoram on a national stage but also serves as a powerful inspiration for aspiring young talents from the state. Social media platforms have been flooded with congratulatory messages from across the Mizo community, celebrating her as a symbol of confidence, grace, and determination.
