Aizawl: Residents of Lungpuk village in Mizoram stumbled upon an illicit poppy plantation, marking the first of its kind in the state. The plantation, measuring 15 meters in length and 5 meters in width, was found concealed in the jungle near Khaikhy village of Siaha District, Mizoram.
Notably, the illicit cultivation was situated at the border between Khaikhy and Rala village in Myanmar.

Promptly responding to the discovery, personnel from Phura Police Station, the 20th Assam Rifles stationed at Lungpuk, Mara Thyutlia Pi (MTP), Lungpuk Branch, and Forest Department officials, along with representatives from the MADC (Mara Autonomous District Council), swiftly proceeded to the site. Acting in tandem, they jointly executed the destruction of the illegal plantation at approximately 2:00 PM on the same day.
The estimated value of the destroyed poppy plantation is Rs. 32 lakh (approximately). An ongoing inquiry has been initiated to identify and apprehend the owner of this illicit cultivation.
