Shillong: The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has decided to revoke the Letter of Award (LoA) issued to SCI Computers Limited for electricity distribution operations in the Mawsynram Sub-Division, Meghalaya Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh announced on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said the decision was taken after completing the necessary legal and administrative procedures and considering feedback from local representatives in the affected areas.
He clarified that the move was not triggered by the recent torching of the company’s office, stating that the matter had been under review for some time. The minister said the government’s priority is to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers during the transition.
“MeECL will take over the operations to safeguard consumer interests and maintain seamless service delivery,” Lyngdoh said.
He further clarified that the cancellation applies only to the Mawsynram Sub-Division and should not be viewed as a broader policy shift regarding the privatisation of power distribution services in the state.
The decision was welcomed by Mawsynram MLA Ollan Singh, who said the return of power distribution responsibilities to the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) would improve accountability and service delivery in the region.
According to an order issued by the Director (Distribution), MePDCL, the Letter of Award granted to SCI Computers Limited on November 10, 2025, has been cancelled after the company failed to fulfil stipulated conditions and execute the Distribution Franchisee Agreement within the prescribed timeframe.
The order noted that more than six months had elapsed since the award was issued, yet the agreement remained unsigned and several mandatory requirements necessary for the commencement of franchisee operations had not been met.

With the cancellation taking immediate effect, MePDCL has resumed direct responsibility for the operation, distribution and supply of electricity in the Mawsynram Sub-Division.
Expressing satisfaction over the development, Singh said the move is expected to improve the management of power services and address longstanding concerns raised by consumers in the area.
