Lumami: Four faculty members of Nagaland University have been featured in the World’s Top 2% Scientists list, compiled by researchers at Stanford University based on bibliometric data, with three also recognised in the Career-Long Top 2% Scientists category.
The four faculty members are Prof. Prabhakar Sharma of the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Prof. Ambrish Singh of the Department of Chemistry, Prof. Joginder Singh of the Department of Botany, and Prof. Pranav Kumar Prabhakar of the Department of Biotechnology.
Prof. Singh, Prof. Joginder Singh and Prof. Prabhakar have also been included in the career-long category, which recognises sustained research impact over the course of a scientist’s career.
Congratulating the faculty members, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik said the recognition reflected their dedication, scholarly excellence and sustained research contributions. He added that the achievement highlighted the growing quality and global visibility of research at the university.
Prof. Sharma’s research focuses on hydrology and environmental engineering, including contaminant remediation, microplastic pollution, groundwater management and aquifer characterisation. He has published more than 119 peer-reviewed research articles, holds five patents and has an h-index of 47, with over 8,200 citations.
Prof. Ambrish Singh works in electrochemistry, materials chemistry, corrosion science and polymers. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, he has an h-index of more than 55 and over 10,000 citations. He has also been associated with more than 56 intellectual property rights, including patents.
Prof. Joginder Singh’s research spans microbiology, plant sciences and environmental research. He has authored more than 120 research and review articles, edited 15 books and contributed to around 60 book chapters.
Prof. Pranav Kumar Prabhakar, head of the Department of Biotechnology, works in biotechnology and biomedical research, focusing on metabolic disorders, oral insulin delivery and potential applications of natural products in diabetes management. He said the recognition marked his sixth consecutive year in the World’s Top 2% Scientists lists.
The database uses a composite citation indicator, including measures with and without self-citations, alongside other bibliometric indicators to assess researchers’ impact within their respective fields and sub-fields. It draws on Scopus data provided by Elsevier through ICSR Lab and covers 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields.
Nagaland University, established in 1989 under an Act of Parliament, became operational in 1994. It has three campuses and 44 departments offering programmes across disciplines, including science, agriculture, engineering, humanities and management.
