Mizoram has launched a 14-day training programme for 41 non-Mizo All India Service (AIS) officers to familiarise them with the state’s language, culture, social values and traditions.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated the “Training on Mizo Culture, Language, Society and Value System” at Secretariat Conference Hall-I on Thursday.

The programme brings together officers from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS).

The initiative aims to help officers posted to Mizoram communicate more effectively with local communities and improve grassroots administration.

Lalduhoma said understanding local cultures and ways of life was essential for public servants. He encouraged the officers to learn Mizo, describing language as an effective means of building communication and rapport with people.

The Chief Minister also highlighted tlawmngaihna, a Mizo value associated with selflessness, community service and helping others, as an important aspect of Mizo society.

Noting that India’s administrative system brings officers into contact with communities with diverse languages and cultural identities, he urged them to understand the people they serve wherever they are posted.

Chief Secretary Khili Ram Meena said the programme would help non-Mizo officers improve their communication and interaction with local communities, contributing to more effective grassroots administration.

The training will run from October 8 to October 28, with one hour of sessions each day. Of the 41 participating officers, 19 posted in the districts will attend online.
