Meghalaya: Body of one identified among 4 found in East Jaintia Hills

Shillong: Following the gory discovery of four bodies on Saturday morning in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills District, the police have identified one of the deceased as 23-year-old Ravi Rai.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been initiated to investigate the case.

East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Giri Prasad confirmed that Rai was the son of Devi Rai, a resident of Pastha Elam, Nepal.

A criminal case has been registered and an investigation is ongoing. Given the seriousness of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to assist the Investigating Officer (I/O) for an effective investigation.

The SP detailed that at 7:30 am on Saturday, the In-Charge of the Umpleng Anti-Dacoity (AD) Camp received a phone call reporting that four unidentified bodies were found behind the Umpleng market.

Officers and staff arrived at the scene and discovered four bodies with their hands tied and multiple cut injuries, likely caused by sharp objects, suggesting foul play.

The Crime Scene Unit (CSU), Mobile Forensic Unit, and a Magistrate were requisitioned. Upon arrival, an inquest was conducted, and evidence was collected. All necessary formalities were observed at the spot.

After completing the formalities at the scene, the bodies were transported to Civil Hospital Khliehriat for post-mortem examinations.
