Churachandpur: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has reiterated its position, urging top BJP leaders to ensure an early political settlement for the Kuki-Zo communities before the establishment of any popularly elected government in Manipur.
“Held detailed discussion with the members of Zomi Council at Churachandpur yesterday. The discussions were purposeful & cordial. We discussed developmental initiatives that need to be undertaken at present,” posted BL Santhosh on Facebook.
“Held discussion with Kuki CSO members at Churachandpur today. Understood their concerns & discussed various efforts to bring back total normalcy in daily life of the state,” he added in another post.
On Thursday, a four-member team from the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), led by its vice-chairman, met with BJP National General Secretary BL Santhosh and the party’s North East Coordinator Sambit Patra at the DC Churachandpur Bungalow.
During the meeting, the KZC delegation apprised the visiting leaders of their collective position, emphasising the need to maintain the status quo along the buffer zone and to pursue an early political settlement for the Kuki-Zo before the invocation of any popular government in Manipur.
The delegation also clarified that they are not opposed to the BJP government. However, they stressed that the current situation on the ground has made it untenable for the Kuki-Zo community to willingly participate in the process of forming a new state government at this time.
The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, with both sides engaging in constructive dialogue focused on achieving peace, stability, and a just political resolution.
It may be noted that the top BJP leaders are on a three-day visit to Manipur to review the current situation in the state. Their visit comes amid mounting pressure and growing demands for the formation of a popular government.
On Wednesday, shortly after their arrival, Santhosh and Patra met with state BJP MLAs, party office bearers, and workers to discuss and deliberate on strategies to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. They also held a separate meeting with legislators from alliance partners, including the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the National People’s Party (NPP).
