Imphal: Amid the ongoing tension in Manipur, the Anti-Smuggling Unit of the Customs Division in Imphal successfully conducted two separate operations resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of brown sugar and Amphetamine tablets with an estimated value of Rs 9.59 crore on Tuesday.
According to an official report, the arrests were made based on credible information received from reliable sources.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Md Ayub Khan, son of Md Tomba from Leihaokhong Mathak Leikai under Lilong Tehsil, and Akbar Khan, son of Md Nasimuddin from Kiyamgei Makha Leikai in Imphal East.
The Anti-Smuggling Unit team detained Md Ayub Khan at Hatta near a petrol pump in Imphal East at approximately 4:30 pm, seizing 1.732 kg of brown sugar.

The confiscated brown sugar, valued at Rs 8.66 crore in the international market, is suspected to be of foreign origin, as stated by Rajivkumar Yengkhom, Deputy Commissioner of the Customs Division in Imphal.
Simultaneously, Md Akbar Khan was apprehended from North AOC in Imphal West, in possession of 9,300 Amphetamine tablets of foreign origin, with a market value of Rs 93 lakh internationally. Both individuals have been arrested under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, according to the official statement.
