Imphal: Former works minister and Manipur BJP leader Th Biswajit Singh on Thursday said the meeting with central leaders in Delhi was only to celebrate the party’s victory in the recently concluded state elections.

Nothing related to legislature party leader was discussed, said Biswajit, who is also one of the frontrunners for the chief ministerial post along with N Biren Singh.

Speaking to media persons at Imphal airport while returning from the national capital, Biswajit said some media reporting that N Biren Singh was returning as the chief minister of Manipur for the second term was only done based on their speculation.

“The meeting was only about our celebration and review meeting post poll. They (media) must have reported (on CM post) based on speculation,” said MLA Biswajit from Thongju constituency.

There was also reports of division within the party over the chief ministerial post. However, MLA Biswajit denied any such internal rift among the newly-inducted BJP legislatures while stating that the state will follow the instructions of the central leaders when it comes to choosing the legislature party leader.

Biswajit also said that the formation of the new government has been delayed due to the ongoing Parliamentary session in New Delhi and Yaoshang festival in the state.

On Tuesday, Biswajit Singh, along with outgoing CM N Biren Singh and state party chief A Sarda Devi, went to Delhi after the party’s sweeping victory in the state polls.
