RGU’s Zahid Mamud selected for CERN-backed physics training in Spain

Zahid Mamud, a postgraduate physics student from The Assam Royal Global University (RGU), has received a funding grant from CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, to participate in an international training programme in Spain.

CERN, based on the France–Switzerland border near Geneva, is one of the world’s leading centres for scientific research in particle physics. Zahid has been selected to attend the CAS Course on “Introduction to Accelerator Physics,” which will be held in Santa Susanna, Spain, from 21 September to 4 October 2025.

Zahid, a former INSPRE Fellow, will join a global cohort of students and researchers exploring advanced topics in accelerator physics. His selection for the course marks a significant academic milestone and reflects his continued pursuit of excellence in the field.

“This is a proud moment for the entire university,” RGU Vice Chancellor AK Buragohain said. “Zahid’s recognition by CERN highlights the quality of our academic environment and the global potential of our students.”

The grant allows Zahid to be part of a select group of young physicists engaging with cutting-edge nuclear research at an international level.
