Guwahati: A headmaster of a primary school in Demow in Assam’s Sivsagar district killed himself, but it seems like the police and the teacher’s family differ on the cause of death.

The family of Kaliprasad Chetia, Headmaster of Lakhmipathar LP School said he took the extreme step over not being able to operate the online RIIMS attendance system.

According to Kalita’s colleagues, he was depressed over not being able to cope up with the new online systems of attendance.

“He always used to complain that he is unable to use the new online system of taking attendance,” the teachers said.

In September this year, the Assam government had instructed school authorities to make teachers download the App RIIMS. The App was meant to let the government observe the attendance of teachers and other staffers.

Teachers opposed the state government asking them to download RIIMS App for their biometric attendance. They said that this move would infringe on their privacy.

However, the investigation officer in the suicide case, Sub Inspector Pawan Saikia told EastMojo, “(The) son and wife of the deceased said he used to drink regularly and used to go out of home at midnight. On Monday, he came out of the home at night and never returned. His son found his body in one of the school rooms in the morning.”

Saikia added that the body has been sent for post mortem and further investigations are on.
