Itanagar: The Special Investigation Cell (Vigilance) of the Arunachal Pradesh police on Monday arrested a government official for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes from the public.
The arrest, according to the SIC, was made in response to a written complaint filed by one Nabam Tangu.
The accused identified as C K Singh (58) and serving as a junior engineer at the PWD chief engineer’s (western zone) office, was apprehended red-handed while soliciting Rs. 50,000 from a member of the public, as confirmed by SIC (Vigilance) superintendent of police Anand Mittal.
According to the complaint filed by Tangu, the accused had demanded the bribe for facilitating the renewal of a firm license.
Singh is currently in police custody, said SP Mittal, adding that swift action was taken following the complaint.
An FIR has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and investigations are underway, the SP said.

Highlighting the seriousness of the offense, Mittal stated that the accused, being a government employee, could face up to ten years of rigorous imprisonment.
He urged the public to report any instances of bribery involving government officials in official matters to the SIC for prompt action.
