Agartala: Tipra Motha Party founder and MDC Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has expressed frustration over his inability to bring transparency to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and suggested that he might step down from his position.
Debbarman, visibly upset by allegations of corruption and malpractice within the council, admitted that despite his best efforts, the system remains resistant to reform.
Blaming the system, Debbarman said, “No matter how hard you work to fix the flaws, the corrupt system will find its ways to bypass it. I am not willing to continue here as a rubber stamp leader. I can’t be a puppet of the system. The day I will leave this constitutional institution; the whole council will remember that I quit because the system stood against me.”
The royal scion who made ‘transparency’ and ‘corruption free administration’ as major poll planks along with the ideological war cry of Greater Tipraland ahead of TTAADC polls in 2021, appeared extremely frustrated for being unable to deliver what he promised.
“This is a systematic flaw. If you take education for instance, less qualified teachers who are neither professional nor efficient are drawing salaries worth over Rs 60,000 and those who are adequately qualified are being forced to work in private schools in lieu of paltry wages. We don’t have funds to recruit new teachers. When we raise the issue with the state, the state government says it is going through fund constraints. The Centre is willing to give but there is no specific timeline mentioned. The less qualified people can’t be sacked or replaced also as it could stir another controversy,” Debbarman said, shedding light on
Speaking at the one-day session of TTAADC, he revealed that the TTAADC had been using funds meant for development for paying salaries and pensions.

“Everyone knows who launched this system of diverting development funds for paying salaries and pension. The financial concurrence for this was taken long back when we were not even in power. Instead of rewarding the merit we have been promoting nepotism, favouritism and partiality in giving jobs. The CPI(M) ruled the TTAADC but provided jobs without interviews or checking voter ID cards,” he alleged.
Speaking on the recent controversy pertaining to the recruitment exams of Zonal Development Officers, Sub-Zonal Development Officers, he said, “I tried to bring transparency, but the system does not allow me to work. We must hang our heads in shame. The truly qualified aspirants do not get a chance. Nobody is going to help us—not even God—because our hearts are not pure, our thoughts are unclear, and our minds are corrupted. I must admit that there are good officers as well. There are good people on both sides—the ruling and treasury bench. All of you are committing sins by destroying the futures of children and qualified youths for the sake of making money.”
