Tripura Floods: 11 NDRF teams to be deployed, choppers on standby for rescue operations

Agartala: In response to the worsening flood situation in Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on Thursday that 11 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams will be deployed across the state. The teams are being dispatched from various locations in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Additionally, helicopters will be deployed to airlift individuals stranded in flood-hit areas, Dr. Saha shared on social media.

The Chief Minister’s announcement followed a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

“Spoke to Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji regarding the current grim flood situation in the state. He informed me that a total of eleven NDRF teams would be sent to Tripura from different locations in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Arrangements will also be made for helicopters to airlift stranded individuals in the flood-affected regions,” Dr. Saha stated.

Expressing gratitude for the prompt response, Dr. Saha emphasized that the entire state administration is working tirelessly to assist those affected by the floods.

“Additional boats will also be sent along with the NDRF teams. I extend my thanks to the Hon’ble Home Minister for providing immediate assistance to the people of Tripura. The entire state government machinery has been working around the clock to manage this unprecedented natural disaster. I also appreciate the public representatives, social workers, and citizens who are cooperating with the state government during this crisis,” he added.

According to the latest report from the State Disaster Management Authority, 34,100 people from 6,620 families have been relocated to 346 relief camps across the state.

The ongoing floods have claimed 10 lives due to drowning and landslides, with two individuals sustaining injuries. The report also indicated that 82 houses have been fully damaged, 311 severely damaged, and 663 partially damaged, bringing the total number of affected houses to 1,056.
