Agartala: In a disturbing incident, an 82-year-old paralysed woman was rescued from a locked room in Agartala city on Sunday, where the dead body of her son was also discovered. The on-duty police officer, Dulal Chandra Datta, informed reporters about the tragic situation.
The elderly lady was identified as Kalyani Sur Chowdhury, and her deceased son was identified as Sudhir Sur, aged 54. The lady had been confined to the room for the past eight days, following the death of her only caretaker son. For the last three years, the mother and son resided in the Shibnagar-based residence in Agartala, after Sudhir’s wife separated from him three years ago.
The authorities were alerted by concerned neighbors who noticed a foul odor emanating from the house. Upon entering the residence around 3 p.m., the police, accompanied by an executive magistrate, discovered Sudhir’s body in a decaying state on his bed. Kalyani, paralyzed and unable to move, was found in another room and promptly taken to a nearby health facility.
Several empty alcohol bottles were found in the room where Sudhir’s body was discovered. The police suggested that Sudhir, who started consuming alcohol regularly after his separation, might have succumbed to excessive alcohol consumption.
