NSCN-K (Niki) has issued a three-day ultimatum for “non-locals who have arrived from elsewhere in Nagaland to ‘propagate and encourage’ LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer)” to vacate Naga-inhabited areas, citing the need to protect society.
In response to reports of the state’s inaugural LGBTQ conclave held on February 29, NSCN (Niki) declared that the Nagas, as Christians, would not tolerate individuals from outside the region attempting to undermine the societal fabric.
Emphasising the importance of vigilance, the group asserted that the Nagas, including churches, must remain watchful against forces seeking to harm the community. They also stressed the need to educate and counsel the younger generation, who may be susceptible to negative influences.
The group clarified that it would not be held accountable for any adverse reactions resulting from non-compliance with its directive.
NSCN (Niki) highlighted the recurrent attempts by external cultures and practices to influence Naga society, promoting behaviors that contradict the moral, cultural, and religious values of the Naga people.
Expressing concern over LGBTQ, a concept foreign to Naga society, the group claimed that it was attempting to establish itself within the community, corrupting the minds of Naga people, especially the younger generation, away from their cultural and religious beliefs.
The NSCN (Niki) argued that such actions posed a serious threat to the moral ethics of the Nagas and contradicted the teachings of Christianity. They vowed not to be swayed and insisted on preserving traditional and religious values, rejecting the imposition of unrighteous and unethical ways of life by external elements.
