Imphal: The Red Shield Division of the Indian Army celebrated Onam at Andro in Manipur’s Imphal East, bringing together nearly 200 people from different communities, including members of the Naga, Meitei and Kom communities.
Around 30 schoolchildren from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Andro, along with civil and military dignitaries, attended the celebration.
The event was attended by GOC Red Shield Division I K Muivah, ADGP Manipur and Padma Shri awardee Guru Rewben Mashangva, among other civil and military dignitaries.
The celebrations featured a mix of civil and military cultural performances, highlighting the cultural diversity of the region.
The programme began with a traditional Chenda performance by the Indian Army, followed by folk dances representing the Meitei and Naga communities.
The cultural programme also featured a musical performance by Guru Rewben Mashangva.
The celebrations culminated in an Onam Sadhya, with guests and participants sharing the traditional festive feast. The gathering provided an opportunity for people from different communities and backgrounds to interact and celebrate together.
The event concluded with an exchange of tokens of appreciation, symbolising the goodwill and camaraderie fostered during the celebration.
The Red Shield Division said the event reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to strengthening civil-military relations, promoting cultural harmony and celebrating India’s tradition of unity in diversity.
