Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for development projects worth approximately Rs 12,100 crore in Darbhanga, Bihar, on Wednesday, including significant railway infrastructure improvements and new Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras (PMBJAKs).
In a ceremony held in Darbhanga, the Prime Minister launched railway projects worth over Rs 1,740 crore, aimed at bolstering the region’s transportation network. Among these initiatives, Modi laid the foundation for the Sonenagar Bypass Railway line, connecting Chiralapothu to Bagha Bishunpur in Aurangabad district, with an estimated cost of Rs 220 crore. Other rail projects, collectively valued at over Rs 1,520 crore, include the gauge conversion of the Jhanjharpur-Laukaha Bazar rail section and the Darbhanga Bypass Railway Line, designed to alleviate congestion at Darbhanga Junction and enhance regional rail connectivity.
The Prime Minister also launched MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train services on the Jhanjharpur-Laukaha Bazar route, improving access to employment, education, and healthcare facilities in nearby cities and towns.

During the event, Modi virtually inaugurated PMBJAKs at 18 railway stations across the country, including Agartala Railway Station in Tripura. This initiative aims to make affordable, quality generic medicines available to the public, reducing the healthcare burden for Indian citizens. Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee and other dignitaries attended the inauguration event at Agartala Station.
Highlighting the goals of the Jan Aushadhi Kendras, the Prime Minister stated that the initiative would make essential medicines more accessible to travellers and the general public alike, supporting a healthier society by encouraging the use of affordable, high-quality generic medicines.
