Maligaon: In a significant move to enhance passenger safety, convenience, and comfort, N. F. Railway has constructed ten new Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) over the last financial year. These bridges, crucial for connecting platforms at railway stations, promote safer and more convenient passage for passengers boarding or alighting trains.
FOBs, typically made from steel or concrete and designed to be either open or covered, are essential for ensuring passenger safety within the railway system. N. F. Railway currently boasts 279 operational FOBs of varying widths and lengths across its five divisions: Katihar, Alipurduar, Rangiya, Lumding, and Tinsukia.
In the fiscal year 2023-24, N. F. Railway constructed ten new FOBs, with nine located in the Rangiya division and one in the Katihar division. The Rangiya division saw new FOBs at Azara, Patiladaha, Sorbhog, Singra, Boko, Bamunigaon, Changsari, Chaygaon, and Baihata stations. Meanwhile, the Katihar division added a new FOB at Harishchandrapur railway station.

N. F. Railway is continually upgrading its amenities to improve the passenger experience, including the installation of lifts, escalators, and upscale waiting lounges. As part of the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,’ 56 new FOBs are slated for construction at selected stations within the N. F. Railway zone, further enhancing safety and convenience for travellers.
