Kohima: The counting of votes for the lone Lok Sabha Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency is underway across 17 counting centres in 15 districts of the state. Early trends indicate a lead for the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Supongmeren Jamir.
As the counting began, Jamir established an early lead, maintaining the lead throughout.
The lead fluctuated throughout the morning, narrowing to about 10,000 votes at around 10 AM, and further decreasing to 4,000, 1,600, and even below the 1,000 mark at times.
Despite these fluctuations, Jamir managed to regain and widen his lead as the counting progressed, with the gap increasing to about 15,000, then 17,000, and peaking at over 24,000 votes.
Trends indicated that Jamir was leading in the districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Phek, Peren as of this writing.
At the time of this writing, Nagaland opposition-less government’s consensus candidate Dr Chumben Murry was trailing behind Jamir with 20,626 votes.

It is noteworthy that six districts in Nagaland abstained from participating in the Parliamentary polls held on April 19 during the first phase of the election.
The voter turnout in Nagaland stood at 57.72%, as per the notification from the state chief electoral officer. Out of the 13,25,383 registered voters, the total number of voters in the six abstaining districts accounted for 4,00,632.
