Aizawl: Law enforcement agencies in Mizoram have seized large quantities of methamphetamine and heroin worth over Rs 34 crore in a series of anti-narcotics operations conducted across the state over the past week, leading to the arrest of several persons under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The largest seizure was made on July 21, when a joint team of the CID (Special Branch) and Kolasib District Executive Force (DEF) intercepted a vehicle on National Highway near Khamrang village in Kolasib district. Officials recovered 15 kg of suspected methamphetamine tablets, estimated to be worth Rs 12 crore.
Four persons were arrested in connection with the seizure: Sailothanga Sailo (42) of Venglai, Kolasib; Lalchhuanmawia (23) of Gosen Veng, Kolasib; Vanlalthlana (32) of Diakkawn, Kolasib; and Laldinpuii (43) of Vengthar, Kolasib. A case has been registered at Kawnpui Police Station under Sections 22(c), 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigation is underway.
In a separate operation on July 22, a joint team of the Special Narcotics Police Station and the 34 Assam Rifles seized 21.33 grams of heroin from R. Lalhumhima (26), a native of Chhawrtui in Khawzawl district who is currently residing at BSUP, Lawipu, Aizawl. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act.
Another heroin seizure was made at Sethlun in Lunglei on the evening of July 21, when personnel of the DSB Lunglei and 92 Battalion BSF recovered 71.59 grams of Heroin No. 4, packed in six soap cases, with an estimated market value of Rs 14.31 lakh. Two persons, Malsawmdawnga (33) of Champhai Vengthlang and Lalzarmawii (34) of Bazar Veng, Lunglei, were arrested. A case has been registered at Lunglei Police Station.
Earlier, on July 17, the CID (SB) Operation Team seized 4.770 kg of methamphetamine worth an estimated Rs 3.82 crore during a search at New Look Restaurant in Chanmari Kawn, Aizawl. Three residents of Karimganj district in Assam, Juber Ahmed (24), Md Sirajul Hoque (24) and Sakir Hussain (21), were arrested and booked under Sections 22(c) and 29(1) of the NDPS Act.

Later the same night, at around 9.40 pm, another CID (SB) team intercepted a vehicle near Delhi Dhaba at Thuampui, Aizawl, recovering 9.016 kg of methamphetamine valued at approximately Rs 7.21 crore. The vehicle was allegedly driven by Malsawmtluanga (29) of Zokhawthar. A case has been registered under Sections 22(c) and 25 of the NDPS Act.
According to CID (SB), the total quantity of methamphetamine seized in Aizawl during the past week stands at 13.786 kg, with an estimated market value of Rs 11.03 crore.
