Aizawl: In a political session held at the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) Southern Headquarters in Lunglei, Health and Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii spoke in detail about the recently launched Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), calling it a major step forward in public healthcare access for the state.
Addressing party workers and residents, Minister Lalrinpuii said the MUHCS was officially introduced on April 1, 2025, following a year-long study and planning process. “Mizos are generally poor to the point where most people do not have savings. During times of illness, many used to seek help from MLAs. This scheme is meant to relieve them of such burdens,” she said.
The scheme allows beneficiaries to access cashless medical treatment ranging from ₹2,500 to ₹5,00,000, and according to the minister, a growing number of citizens have already begun utilizing the benefits and have expressed gratitude to the government. She encouraged the public to take advantage of the initiative, emphasizing that it was especially beneficial for economically disadvantaged sections of society.
She also noted that a private hospital in Serkawn has already joined the scheme, marking an important milestone in expanding access to cashless healthcare in the region.
On strengthening the healthcare infrastructure, Minister Lalrinpuii announced the recruitment of 9 new doctors for Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and 39 doctors under the National Health Mission (NHM). Additionally, the government plans to recruit 100 new health workers in the near future.
Speaking about the broader mission of the ZPM government, she stated, “All our ministers are working beyond their official capacity for the people. As we have promised to stay away from corruption, we are keeping our word by living on our salaries alone.”
Encouraging party members and the public, she said, “Let us renew our commitment to our movement. Those who had once criticized us during the campaign are now witnessing the difference. If you had turned away before, come back now and be part of the change.”
She also appealed to the people, NGOs, and workers to support the government’s vision with sincerity and dedication, urging everyone to remain committed to truth and integrity. “We must work with honesty from our end, and I ask the people to do the same,” she concluded.
