Aizawl: In response to the recent unrest in Bangladesh, the Law and Judicial Branch of Lawngtlai district in Mizoram has released an advisory to ensure the safety and well-being of those residing near the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Myanmar borders.
The advisory, issued by District Magistrate Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy, imposes restrictions on public movement and activities within 3 kilometers of the border from 6 AM to 6 PM.
According to the order, groups or individuals, as well as vehicles and domesticated animals, are prohibited from entering the restricted area during the specified hours. Violators of this order may face punishment under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. The advisory will remain in effect for three months or until further notice.
This measure comes as part of the broader security response to the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently resigned following demands from student protesters. Her resignation marks the end of her 15-year tenure.
The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier, which manages a 444-kilometer stretch of the international border with Bangladesh, has also intensified its security measures to ensure effective border control and management. This increased vigilance aims to prevent any spillover effects from the unrest in Bangladesh into neighboring regions of India.
