Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has appealed to the state’s youth to uphold the spirit of hospitality and respect visiting artists and guests following the alleged attack on Sikkim-based rapper Ugen Namgyal Bhutia, popularly known as UNB, in the state.
Speaking about the incident, Khandu said such occurrences should not happen, particularly during festivals that bring performers and visitors from outside Arunachal Pradesh. He emphasised that visitors are guests and artists performing at festivals are “stars” who deserve respect and warm hospitality.
Referring to the alleged assault on UNB, Khandu said he had spoken to the Chief Minister of Sikkim and assured him that both state governments would work together to ensure justice in the matter.
He said the Arunachal Pradesh Police had already initiated action and registered an FIR in connection with the incident.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of festivals in promoting Arunachal Pradesh as a tourism destination, noting that tourism can generate employment, increase state revenue and attract investment.
Appealing to the youth, Khandu urged them to uphold the traditional Indian principle of “Atithi Devo Bhava” and ensure that visiting artists and guests from across the country are treated with dignity, respect and warmth.
He said Arunachal Pradesh should continue to strengthen its welcoming approach towards visitors and artists, adding that festivals provide an opportunity to showcase the state’s hospitality and cultural identity.
