Aizawl: Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena embarked on a visit to the Mizoram border to assess the ongoing progress of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP). During his visit, he engaged with Arakan Army officials, urging their cooperation with the construction workers to ensure the project’s smooth execution.
K. Vanlalvena initiated his journey at the Zorinpui Assam Rifles Camp and subsequently visited the Arakan Army camp in Myanmar. The MP, emphasising the road’s potential benefits for all, requested the Arakan Army officials to support the construction workers. In a positive response, the officials assured that they would not pose any hindrance to the workers and would extend support in any way possible.
Traversing approximately 8 kilometers on the Zorinpui to Paletwa road stretch, K. Vanlalvena interacted with IRCON Company Deputy Manager and sub-contractors from Myanmar. Expressing concern over the project’s pace, he urged them to expedite the construction process.
The KMMTTP road project, under the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, encompasses various segments. The upgradation of the Sittwe Sea port, completed and inaugurated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in May of the previous year, constitutes one part. The second part involves Sittwe and Paletwa port jettyriver boat route going for a stretch of 158 kms. The ongoing construction of the Paletwa to Zorinpui road (KM 106) represents the third phase.
The fourth segment, Lawngtlai to Zorinpui (KM 94), is partially completed but faces challenges due to rockslides.

This route extends onward to Dabaka in Assam, covering a distance of 850 km (530 mi) along NH-54, an integral segment of the extensive East–West Corridor that establishes connectivity between North East India and the rest of the country.
