Shillong: Police foiled a bomb plot intended for Ri Bhoi district, successfully recovering the explosive device from Umsning during a joint operation conducted by the East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi police on Monday evening. The operation is still ongoing.
Following the bomb recovery, authorities made four arrests. “The police are determined to ensure that anyone involved in a larger capacity is apprehended and brought to justice,” a police source has said. The police are not limiting their investigation solely to the IED planted at Them Iewmawlonh.
Earlier, following the IED blast on March 9, the Meghalaya Police arrested two individuals who were presented before the District Court on Monday.
One of the arrested persons is Tarson Lymba, a 58-year-old senior member of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), from Shnongpdeng, Meghalaya, and Ebakordor Nongpluh, a 26-year-old from West Jaintia Hills District. Both were apprehended on March 10, with Lymba taken into custody in Dawki and Nongpluh in Shillong. The court gave the police ten days of custody.
HNYF president Sadon Blah, who also serves as the HNLC interlocutor, met with Superintendent of Police (SP) Rituraj Ravi to seek clarification on Lymba’s arrest. Blah alleges that the police are targeting NGOs, citing past instances of victimization.
