Shillong: Tension swept through the Harijan Colony on Saturday around 10:30 pm when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated, leaving one person injured.

Rituraj Ravi, the Superintendent of Police for East Khasi Hills, confirmed that the explosion occurred in Harijan Colony at Them Ïew Mawlong and was caused by an improvised explosive device. The blast was contained within a small abandoned tin structure near the syndicate bus stand, causing damage to the structure itself and a few nearby window panes.

The injured individual, who sustained a leg injury, was promptly taken to Woodland Hospital for medical attention. Recounting the incident, the victim described the blast as a loud explosion. He mentioned that he and his friend were returning to the Harijan Colony when the blast occurred. Quick thinking on his part potentially saved his friend from harm as he pushed him out of harm’s way when a tin structure was propelled by the blast. The intensity of the explosion prompted even the CRPF personnel deployed in the vicinity to react swiftly.

The blast, lasting only a few seconds, prompted concerns about the safety and security in the Harijan Colony. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the motive behind the attack and apprehend those responsible.
