IPS officer Mukesh Singh set to take charge as Manipur DGP

Imphal: IPS officer Mukesh Singh is set to assume charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, marking a significant leadership transition in the state’s police force amid continuing security challenges.

A 1996-batch IPS officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, Mukesh Singh arrived in Imphal on Saturday ahead of taking over as the state’s top police officer. He previously served as the Director General of Police in Ladakh.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Singh’s appointment on inter-cadre deputation from the AGMUT cadre to the Manipur cadre for a period of three years. The order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

According to the official notification, the appointment has been approved “as a special case in public interest,” with the relaxation of existing inter-cadre deputation norms. The ACC has also waived the mandatory cooling-off period usually required after completion of central deputation.

Singh’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Manipur, which continues to grapple with security and law-and-order challenges.

Meanwhile, outgoing Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh has been appointed as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat.
