Assam’s Navhyam Nihan Borah wins silver at Int'l Speed Skating C'ship in Jakarta

Guwahati: Young skater Navhyam Nihan Borah from Assam won a silver medal at the International Speed Skating Championship 2026, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from May 29 to 31.

Representing India, Navhyam competed against participants from several countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar and host nation Indonesia. He secured the silver medal in the 400-metre Speed Race in the Basic Inline Skating Boys Category C, showcasing remarkable skill and determination on the international stage.

Apart from his podium finish, the young skater delivered strong performances in other events as well. He narrowly missed qualification for the final of the 300-metre race by a few seconds and reached the semi-finals of the 500-metre event.

Navhyam also participated in the International Team Relay (1,800 metres) alongside two fellow Indian skaters. The team completed the race successfully but narrowly missed out on a medal based on overall timing.

The latest achievement adds to Navhyam’s growing list of accomplishments. Earlier this year, he emerged champion at the 25th National Speed Skating Championship held in Chennai in January 2026, reinforcing his reputation as one of India’s most promising young skaters.

The championship also provided Navhyam with valuable international exposure, allowing him to compete against some of the region’s best young athletes and further sharpen his competitive skills.
