Ukhrul: Following the death of a Border Security Force (BSF) constable in a suspected crossfire in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, joint security forces launched a coordinated combing operation on Saturday.
The operation, carried out between 5 am and 10 am, covered the Mongkot Chepu and Sikhibung areas. It involved personnel from the Manipur Police, BSF, CRPF, and the Indian Army, a police official said.
According to a police report, a total of 21 bunkers were dismantled during the operation, while 11 empty cartridge cases were recovered from the sites.
Security forces also conducted area domination, search, and sanitisation exercises in the surrounding locations to apprehend those responsible for the incident and to prevent further unlawful activities.
Police officials stated that such operations will continue in the region to deter miscreants and maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with the security forces during the ongoing operations.
In connection with the incident, an FIR has been registered at Litan Police Station under Sections 103/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25(1-C) of the Arms Act. An investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
