Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of BSF constable Mithun Mandal at Imphal International Airport after the jawan succumbed to injuries sustained during a suspected crossfire in Ukhrul district.
Paying homage to the slain personnel, the Chief Minister said Constable Mandal laid down his life in the line of duty, making the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
He stated that Mandal’s courage, dedication and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country’s borders stand as a testament to the indomitable spirit of India’s security forces.
“It is martyrs like him who strengthen the foundation of our great nation. His sacrifice will not go in vain and will continue to inspire generations to uphold the values of duty, honour and patriotism,” Singh said.
The Chief Minister also extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and assured that the people of Manipur stand in solidarity with them in this hour of grief.
Constable Mandal sustained bullet injuries during a suspected crossfire at Mongkot Chepu under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district. He later succumbed to his injuries while being evacuated to Imphal for medical treatment.

According to police officials, the BSF jawan came under unprovoked firing by suspected militants while performing his duties in the Litan area on April 10, 2026.
The deceased hailed from Bhagjan Tola village in West Bengal.
Following the incident, security forces launched search operations and area domination exercises in the region to track down the militants involved in the attack.
