Wokha: The Land Owners’ Union, Doyang Hydro Power Station (DHPS), Wokha, has issued a final ultimatum to the management of the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), demanding action on long-pending issues concerning employment, livelihood and infrastructure development for communities affected by the Doyang Hydro Power Station.
In a letter addressed to the Managing Director of NEEPCO, the union referred to its earlier representation dated August 31, 2026, and said several commitments and assurances made over the years remain unfulfilled.
The union said the acquisition of ancestral land for the Doyang Hydro Power Station had significantly affected the traditional livelihoods of land-owning families and communities. It maintained that the affected communities continue to face economic and developmental challenges while the project remains operational.
The Doyang Hydro Power Station is a 75 MW hydroelectric project comprising three 25 MW units in Wokha district, Nagaland.
Among its key demands, the union has sought a special recruitment drive for Grade-IV posts, citing the original agreement dated February 28, 1984. It has also sought the appointment of local security guards at DHPS and the recruitment of qualified local candidates to teaching and non-teaching posts at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, DHPS.
The union has further demanded that examinations for Junior Engineer posts in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and other relevant disciplines be conducted at Doyang against available vacancies at DHPS, with preference for qualified candidates from land-affected families.
It has also sought the relocation of the Finance and Accounts Wing to its former location at DHPS and additional funds for infrastructure development at the project during the 2026–27 financial year, over and above the regular allocation.
The union has called upon NEEPCO to take concrete action on the demands within seven days from September 24.
According to the union, if NEEPCO fails to address the demands or provide a legally binding written agreement by 5 pm on October 1, 2026, it will be compelled to pursue further democratic and peaceful courses of action.
These measures, it said, may include an indefinite peaceful sit-in at the project site and other forms of non-violent protest concerning the operation of the project.
The union also stated that NEEPCO management would be held responsible for any operational delays or other consequences arising from the failure to address the issues within the stipulated timeframe.
The Land Owners’ Union reiterated that its demands are aimed at securing employment opportunities, livelihood support, development and justice for communities affected by the establishment and operation of the Doyang Hydro Power Station.
