Chandel: Ushering in the festive season, the Naga Students’ Union Chandel (NSUC) on Monday launched a Christmas Carnival at the Women’s Market in Japhou Bazar, Chandel district. The event aims to offer a festive shopping experience for the district’s residents.

The carnival, featuring 54 stalls, was inaugurated by Js Angam Anal, Chairman of Japhou Bazar Board and Maha Area Chief Association, while Rev. Dr. Runglal Denish, Pastor of Shillong Anal Baptist Church, offered prayers and blessings for the event.

NSUC President Ruwnglar Elly Anal explained that the carnival is designed to provide fun and discounted shopping opportunities for the Christmas season. “Shoppers can enjoy a variety of stalls and try their luck at games to win exciting prizes,” he said.

Bs Wathangam Anal, who set up a gaming stall with friends, highlighted the interactive nature of the event. “It’s a great way for shopkeepers to connect with the community. By evening, around 10 ducks had been won as prizes, creating a win-win situation for everyone,” he added.

The carnival offers an array of stalls, including clothes, Christmas decorations, food, and gaming.

Lh Chand, a visitor, expressed his excitement, thanking the NSUC for reviving such events. “A similar carnival was held years ago but was discontinued. It’s great to see it back, and I’m looking forward to enjoying the games and shopping,” he said.

In the Christian-majority district of Chandel, Christmas shopping is a significant activity. To make it more accessible, all items at the carnival, running until December 23, are available at discounted rates, attracting residents to celebrate the festive spirit.
